Captain Kevin Amason Reserve Unit Commander

Welcome to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Reserve Unit. As the Captain of this outstanding group of volunteers, I am proud to lead a team of men and women who are committed to serving our community.

The Reserve Unit is composed of dedicated volunteer deputies who serve alongside the full-time deputies of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Our reserve deputies donate thousands of hours each year to help protect and serve the Cherokee County community.

Whether providing support at community events, assisting with patrol operations, or lending a hand during emergencies, our volunteers play a vital role in the safety and well-being of Cherokee County residents. The unit is committed to the highest standards of law enforcement and community service.

I invite you to learn more about our unit, our programs, and the many ways you can get involved. Together, we can make a difference.

2 Paths to Service
1996 Christmas Joy Since

POST Certified Deputy

POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified reserve deputies complete the same certification requirements as full-time officers. They carry law enforcement authority and serve alongside full-time deputies in patrol, investigations, and special operations. POST deputies must complete a state-certified basic law enforcement training program.

Auxiliary Deputy

Auxiliary deputies serve in a support capacity to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. While not POST certified, auxiliary deputies play a vital role in community events, traffic control, administrative support, and other non-enforcement activities. This path offers community members a way to contribute directly to public safety.

Christmas Joy — Shop with a Cop

Bringing holiday joy to Cherokee County children since 1996

The Christmas Joy program, also known as "Shop with a Cop," has been bringing smiles to underprivileged children in Cherokee County since 1996. Each December, deputies and volunteers pair up with children to shop for Christmas gifts, providing a memorable holiday experience and building positive relationships between law enforcement and the community's youngest members.
